BY DONATING TO WEAR IT PURPLE, YOU ARE HELPING US SUPPORT AT RISK RAINBOW YOUTH

Wear It Purple now has Deductible Gift Recipient (DGR) Status. To make a tax deductible donation, please donate via Electronic Transfer - details can be found on the right hand side of this page.

Wear it Purple was founded in 2010 in response to young people taking their own lives as a result of bullying and harassment from the lack of acceptance of their sexuality or gender identity.

Research is damning with 75% of LGBTIQ youth experiencing some form of discrimination. 61% experience verbal abuse, 19% experience physical bullying. 24.4% of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual people experience depression. 36.2% of Trans Australians experience depression. This compares to 6.8% of the general population who experience depression.

We’re a not-for-profit that strives to foster supportive, safe, empowering and inclusive environments for rainbow* young people in four key areas:

Awareness – Providing support and resources for Schools, Universities, Gender & Sexuality Alliances (GSA’s) and Youth Organisations to assist them in creating inclusive experiences for rainbow young people. We act as a source of Purple merchandise to support the effective delivery of Wear It Purple Day in Schools, Universities, Workplaces and the broader community.

Opportunity - Providing meaningful opportunities for rainbow young people to develop their skills, expand their network and contribute to the inclusivity of their communities.

Environment – Providing supportive & safe spaces (digital and physical) and contributing to a world where young rainbow people feel proud of who they are.

Collaboration – Uniting with other organisations to further the inclusion of rainbow young people.

Wear it Purple Day is held on the last Friday in August each year – this year being Friday 29th of August. In 2025 our theme is β€˜Bold Voices, Bright Futures’ and we encourage all Australians to wear purple to show young LGBTQIA+ people they are loved, supported and empowered to bring their whole self to life.
